2010 AKS Visiting Scholar Grant for Korean Studies
  

   The AKS (Academy of Korean Studies) Visiting Scholar Grant for Korean Studies, offered by the Graduate School of Korean Studies (GKS), is designed for outstanding graduate students in the field of Korean Studies who are enrolled at one of the foreign universities supported by the AKS Korean Studies Institution Grant. This grant provides students with an opportunity to conduct research at GKS.  The GKS welcomes applications from graduate students in the field of Korean Studies.

1. Eligibility: Graduate students in the field of Korean Studies who are enrolled at one of the following universities

               ▸School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London
               ▸University of California, Berkeley

               ▸Yanbian University
               ▸Free University of Berlin
               ▸University of British Columbia
               ▸Minzu University of China
               ▸Ocean University of China
               ▸University of Southern California
               ▸Ruhr University of Bochum


2. Grant Period: 6 months ~ 1 year from Sep. 1. 2010 or March 1. 2011


3. Grant Benefits
1) Monthly Stipend: 750,000 won
2) Entry support (Worth One Round Air-fare)
3) Access to AKS facilities, including the library
4) On-campus Accommodation available (Students must pay for their own accommodation.)
    ※ Dormitory fee : 460,000 won per semester
5) Opportunities to take classes and Korean language courses at the GKS
     ※ It is available to take 1:1 independent studies for reserch topic.
6) Certificate of Completion of Research Program is issued after the completion of research.
     ※ Students must pay for their own airfare.


4. Required Documents
1) Application Form (Download)2) Certificate of Enrollment issued by current university
3) Official Transcripts of Undergraduate and Graduate Schools
4) Research Proposal (more than 5 pages in A4)
5) Personal Statement
6) Letter of Recommendation (from faculty of current university)
7) Korean (S-TOPIK) and English (TOEFL, IELTS or TEPS) language proficiency test transcript, if available
  

5. Grantee’s Obligations
1) The grantee must register for at least one course or independent studies each semester.
2) The grantee is required to submit the research report at GKS, before returning to his/her home country.
   ※ It is possible to replace it by a presentation at a conference.

7. Further Schedule
   ◦ Grant Notification: in Late July, 2010
   ◦ Grantee must enter the Republic of Korea no later than end of August, 2010.
